I don't know what to title this
Over the course of this semester, we have written about the same topic in all three essays. Not that this isn't an interesting way to expand upon the same idea, but I find it to be a little repetitive and redundant. Personally, I am struggling with regurgitating information and giving this last paper a different feel than those before. I am inquiring as to how everyone is spicing things up with this last essay and being creative instead of throwing up information from the prior essays and being boring. I am also finding it difficult when using sources, as I have used nearly all of those that I can find that apply to the specifics of my topic. I really enjoy this class and I love writing, but I'm finding it to be challenging to focus on my topic as I've been researching it for months now.

I would have to agree. I thought I got as much information as I could on the last paper we turned in. I tried looking at different search queries and it did help a little bit. In all, not as much as I had hoped. I'm having trouble finding a lot of sources. If I had known in the beginning it would be this hard, I would have picked an easier topic. I feel like my papers are the same with just more information from different sources.
ReplyDeleteI have tons of sources but I'm also struggling to find interesting ways to make our final research paper worth reading. I wasn't in love with my topic to start out but it had to be relatable to us and to education. Having to continue expanding on our original thought is hard and i agree, a little redundant. I enjoy writing too but it's challenging to keep going and find new ideas to write about within the topic.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that writing about the same topic throughout the semester is less than exciting. Fortunately for me my topic is interesting enough for me to continue researching. But this paper differs from our last paper because now we are supposed to draw a conclusion, offer a solution to the problem that we presented in the last paper. So I think that is the major difference.
ReplyDeleteI also find it a little a little repetitive and redundant but I do like the twist that we are able to put into the paper every time we work on it. I personally have veered off of what my original idea was and had to become a little more creative about my approach because I didn't feel that it would be a good persuasive topic. What I found though is a book that really hit my topic hard and I was able to be creative and think about my own twist before writing it. You might wont to try to find a powerful source first to start off with. Personally I am barely using any information out of my last paper (because it was exploratory) so only the topic was reliant (in some cases).... It is work but once you find a good starting point it will start coming to you easier!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is okay to be repetitive sometimes in this essay because there is only so much information. At the same time, I have brought in different examples and organized this paper differently than the others. I think this helps because it changes things up and makes it easier to write, otherwise you will find yourself literally reciting the exploratory essay.
ReplyDeleteI agree. But the class was set up this way for a point. We are suppose to explore the same topic over and over to know all the ins and outs. To give paper A change I tried looking at different sources and using new examples, buying found myself using both the new and old ones. When being repetitive in this class it adds strength to out papers. Our credibility also strengthens greatly. When typing this paper remember that it is a persuasive, not an informative paper like the last one.
ReplyDeleteI have had the same problem. My topic is relatively small and I have a had really hard time expanding my ideas. But obviously this is why we have been doing these types of essays because i have a hard time thinking outside the box and thinking of new ways to talk about my topic. I am quite overwhelmed with thinking out my ideas and expanding them.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem I had was getting sources in support of my opinion. I think I picked a far too obscure topic to work on. Extracurricular activities as it applies to getting scholarships and higher employ-ability. I only found one source that is close to talking about the same thing, even then it's only a portion of what I'm talking about. My other sources had to comprise of things to explain what the problems are and attempted solutions. The week after we picked topics we listened to the Video Games in Education video - that would have been a far easier, more established thing to argue.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am just adding on to my last paper. I am fine with finding the right sources and stuff, but I do not know how I am about to pull this off with 10 pages! My topic is not that expansive for 10 pages. I really am trying my hardest to make it as interesting as possible. A friend of mine gave me some advice that has helped. Pick 3 main ideas for your essay and make all of those ideas like mini papers within one big paper.
ReplyDeleteThe exploratory essay was supposed to be a revised view on your topic selection essay, therefor it should have been a big counterargument. The last essay should have been new information that you have found that was for your first essay. The exploratory essay should have been the big part of your counter argument because it was a different view.. i don't think you should have regurgitated information if you did the essays this way...
