The Experience

Now that the year is near the end. I wanna know how it was. This being my first year, it has been an interesting experience. Do you think high school prepared you well enough for college or did you feel it has not? Coming from a college prep high school, I feel that it has prepared me but I still had to learn how to cope with college life. What have you done to succeed? Join any sports, clubs, made a good social environment? College can be very hectic and everyone handles it in many ways. Do you feel first year was smooth and great stepping stone for life or has it been pretty bad that you wish you could do better? Now that this year is nearing end and have been hearing about peoples experiences, how have u taken it?

  1. I don't think High School really "prepared" me for college. It fed me the basic knowledge I needed for the college courses, but didn't cover the wider concept of it. The classes themselves are easy enough for me, and I'm learning lots of new things. But the harder part for me is dealing with all the behind the scenes material, like financial aid requirements. Last year all I needed was the FAFSA, but for this coming year they want 4 other things that are really hard to get.

  2. This year has been one of the most stressful years of my life. I actually care about my grades here (unlike high school) and it has really bothered me when I can't understand things in some of my classes. I have focused on my boyfriend too much and I have not really made any good friendships here. Next year is definitely looking better though and I am probably going to transfer my junior year. I also plan on joining a lot more clubs and stuff next year.

  3. I feel like my high school did not prepare me well enough for college. I did not have to try half as hard in high school and i would still get grades two times better than what i get here. High school did teach me that it is going to be hard though. I remember my teachers telling me how "college is nothing like high school. You will actually have to read the assignments/textbooks in order to keep up in class!!" I think that the new friends I've made and the new study habits i've developed have helped me a lot. I will probably join more clubs next year though.

  4. I feel college is a lot more responsibility. All of the kids in high school who got by with doing the bare minimum, I see them and they are in shock. They do not know how to time manage very well and they are behind in many classes. To me it is a lot easier in college because i time manage well, i set my classes up so i would have time to do what i needed. I love college

  5. My first year was a mess. My high school did prepare me, but I have a hard time accompanying to things. I wish that they would have actualy told me how college was like instead of just trying to teach me material to prepare me. I had more of a lifestyle shock. It was my first time being away from home and being on my own. I spent my first year basically poor and tired but thankfully I came down here with some friends which made it a lot easier.

  6. I feel my first year was definitely a learning experience. But I did learn a lot. I've enjoyed meeting new people and learning new things in life. Living on your own is a lot different when you are responsible with your time and your parents are not the ones really in charge anymore. If you wanted, you could skip class everyday, but I chose to stay responsible and on top of things. I get my word done and still leave time to work out and hang with friends. I feel things might be a little more difficult in the coming year because I have harder classes and if I get a job, time will be limited. Overall, I'm ready take on next year!

  7. My high school didn't really do a good job preparing students for college. However, I'm doing just fine, I think that is because I am good at managing my time and I do my assignments when I need to. I see a lot of kids struggling but that's because most of them spend their time partying as opposed to studying. I mean its good to go out and have fun but you have to make sure your studies come first but with that said I love college and I definitely enjoyed my freshman year.!

  8. I guess I am one of the few but my high school prepared me for college. Honestly, high school was much harder than college was because in high school, not only did I go to school but I also was part of the track team and that took hours away from my studying every week. In high school with 6 difficult classes and over 25 hours of track practice/meets a week it was much more difficult than this first year of classes. But, college is a different beast, it is a lot more about being responsible and time management. In highschool, it was a nice little block schedule that lasted about six hours then you were able to go home and do your homework. In college, its an hour of class, an hour out, then another hour of class; some days you might not even have class!
In the end, I look forward to my next year of classes and would never trade college for high school.
